Beep Beep Honk Honk! CD a Delightful Mix of Road Songs
For Kids, Parents, Grandparents and Motorists
Singer-songwriter Tony Harrison has penned a sweet, thought-provoking tune about following the rules of the road that leads his CD of similarly driven songs he hopes will educate families and inspire friendlier habits by all motorists.
Harrison-disheartened by accounts of road rage and traffic tragedies that shatter lives, families and communities-wrote "Beep Beep Honk Honk" to try to change drivers' often-hostile attitudes and remind them of the value of other people's lives. A handful of happy children back Harrison, whose voice rings out clear and resonant, on the CD's title track. The other 10 songs on the CD, each with a theme touching on cars, kids or Texas, include "Thank You, Teacher," a tune that lauds the sacrifices school teachers make for their students, and Harrison's "Clink Clunk Rock," about buckling up before "rollin' on down the road." Wrapping up the release is the beautiful "Texas Highways." Throughout, steel guitar, upright bass, washboard, piano and fiddle, played by a host of expert musicians, including Van Wilks, Johnny Gimble and Floyd Domino, keep things lively.
Harrison was born in London, a British army brat, and has lived around the world. He and his wife, Carole, and their two (now adult) children, Dominic and Tina, have lived in Austin since 1971, the days of "old laid-back Austin," enjoying the area's natural beauty and partaking of all its treasures. Driving home on a Saturday night in 1998, Harrison was shocked at how traffic had become suddenly overwhelming and how impatient and angry drivers seemed. Around 2 o'clock in the morning, unable to sleep, he wrote "Beep Beep Honk Honk", and it was recorded just a few days later.
Harrison drives a car covered with the "Beep Beep Honk Honk!" message that garners friendly waves and non-malicious reply honks. Says Harrison: "My goal is to make all roads safe. Day by day, each and every one of us must regard other drivers as our families. We must care about each other and think ahead of the consequences to others of every move we make while driving."
